Product Pick - Sneak Peek

Hello again,

Last blog for tonight...

Thought I'd share a sneak peek of the layout I finished last night... This is a layout I created for the February PRODUCT PICK class at Scrapbooks ETC. In this class you get a kit of materials and are shown 3 different layouts completed by the Creative Team.  Class presented by the wonderful Mel, she will help you create awesome layouts, whatever your photos.  February timetable is out now....

So my sneak....

This monthly the bulk of the kit is BLACK and WHITE, so you can add your own colour - like I did! Gee hope I didn't give too much away!

Thanks again!
Amanda

White with one

Next challenge I did this month was from the blog White with 1 - my first time to complete this blog challenge, but an easy one as I just love to use white backgrounds.  Only adding ONE colour was a challenge - this month was royal (or navy) blue, plus add banners (I used the ribbon).
Here's my page....

I used about 4 different page borders and inked and layered them on the left side + rub-ons!.  I found it really hard to find matching blue papers in my stash and at my local scrap shop, so when I found one, I stuck to it and didn't add any other patterned papers like I normally would.

Thanks!

Blog AWOL!

Ok so it is only a few weeks into having a blog and LOL! I've gone AWOL! Well real life has taken over and I am now busy get everything done before I go to LA.... OMG! Yes I just wrote that right, I am going to LA, like in America! Ha! I can't believe that is now so close - in fact only 9 sleeps away. For those scrappers out there, they will understand, but I am going for CHA with my friend Susan from Scrapbooks ETC where I am on the design team.  4 days conference checking out all the scrap stuff plus a few days either side for shopping and... I don't care what else I see, I'm just so excited to be going!

Before I go to LA, I will be posting some layouts and stuff I've been working on.

On a serious note, the floods here in my home town of Brisbane, have been devastating.  We are far enough away from the river to not have been affected at all, but my heart goes out to all those who are. It is incredible that just 20 minutes away from me there are people that have lost everything! I think the effects of the flood will be felt for a long time to come.

So... more from me soon!

I use sign language and pictures

I just needed to let everyone know my passion.... yes scrapbooking, but also, and probably more importantly, my work with special children.

I am a speech therapist (pathologist) and i feel so much love and passion for the work I do.  I am so lucky to go to work everyday and know that I am making a difference for the little guys I am working with.  My favourite thing is using sign language (I use just Key word sign with AUSLAN signs- aka Makaton) and symbols ( use Boardmaker) to help communication as/or if speech develops. In fact tomorrow, I will be teaching 15 new people how to sign and use symbols with the little people in their lives...  And do you know what - I'm excited! I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning and share my love and passion with these people. I know tomorrow people will leave feeling excited and confident to help support their children more.

We all can take talking for granted.  Learning to talk is one of the most complex motor acts we EVER have to learn - I mean, how did any of us learn to co-ordinate our voice box, mouth, lips and tongue to say sounds, words and sentences.  So many children just can't do it, and others just can.  For so many children we can use sign language and symbols to support and extend their communication development.  It gives them a way to successful communication and successful communication means happiness and less frustration.  Quite often children have to use sign and symbols for a long time as their speech develops. I just love helping kids to communicate (in any way they can!).  I am blessed to be able to help so many and in doing so, enrich my own life with pride and happiness and fulfillment.  This is not new (my 2011 word=new) to me, I have always felt this way and I hope I always will...

Thanks for listening!

One little word.... for 2011

Thank you to the amazing Ali edwards for the concept of "One Little Word" - the idea of choosing one word to guide and define and lead you in the year ahead. Check her blog to read more.

Dave and I have both chosen words this year.  We will be journalling (not sure in what form yet) each month and checking our progress through discussions on date night.

My word is NEW.

I want this year to be a NEW start.  The beginning of an amazing cycle filled with balance and happiness and prosperity.  My approach to achieve new is two fold....
1. Obviously moving into a NEW house in February is an important step for us.  This NEW experience and NEW space, not to mention, NEW financial position is going to change so much for us.  I am going to embrace the NEW-ness of the situation and put all my heart and soul into making this NEW change one that leads us forward into a NEW positive cycle.
2. Start NEW patterns of thinking... let NEW and positive light shine on old relationships that I have let hurt me.  Seek and find NEW challenges and relationships that push me to be a better person.  Put away old patterns that sabotaged my progress and emotional growth.  Focus on NEW creations that make my heart sing. Find NEW ways to support and love my family.
(Oh!? can I add a few extra, maybe selfish NEW things, just for fun? -a little but more NEW stuff in my scrap stash and NEW stuff from a visit to IKEA- c'mon it's been 12 months since my last visit to IKEA)

I am so excited about my NEW year.

Now Dave's word is temperance -  you might have to look it up and I can't talk for him as to why he chose this word and what it means for him... all i know is that I am so proud for choosing a word and being the man that he is and wanting to change that part of his emotions that challenges him.  So here's to Dave and to him finding the moderation and balance in his emotions that he desires... Love him.

So that's it - onwards and upwards with 2011...

Leave me a message if you are here reading, just so I know you are out there.
